International School Ibadan Reopens After Hijab Crisis

The International School Ibadan has been reopened after it was closed, on November 19, over the use of Hijab by female Muslim students.

Some parents had insisted that the use of Hijab was a constitutional right of female children, forcing the institution to close down.

However, the school was reopened for academic activities on Monday as security personnel manned entry points in the institution.

According to the Chairman of the school’s Governing Board Yinka Aderinto on Sunday, the development followed the board’s meeting of November 14.

“The International School is a private school and is guided by its own policies, rules and regulations,” he said in a statement.

“The meeting also noted that there is a subsisting court judgment that has affirmed the private status of the school.

“The status quo as regards students’ dress code as contained in the school rules and regulations should be maintained.

“Adequate measures should be put in place to forestall breakdown of law and order in the school.”
