Trump Picks Campaign Manager Ahead 2020 Reelection Bid

US President Donald Trump has named Brad Parscale as his campaign manager for his 2020 reelection bid.

Trump, who has spent just one of his four years as US president, disclosed this on Tuesday in a statement by his campaign organisation.

The move, though somewhat unusual, comes as no surprise as Trump had made no secret of his re-election bid. He had, within hours of being sworn-in as the president of the United States, filed the paperwork to register a reelection campaign.

The selection of Parscale has, however, raised questions of whether the 42-year-old Parscale, a digital expert, was appointed to just lay the groundwork or would be taking charge of the campaign come 2020.

“Brad was essential in bringing a disciplined technology and data-driven approach to how the 2016 campaign was run,” said top White House aide Jared Kushner.

“His leadership and expertise will help build a best-in-class campaign.”

His brother-in-law, Eric Trump, described him as “amazing talent” who has the “family’s complete trust”.

This is not Parscale’s first business with Trump after being employed by the Trump Organization.

He made his foray into politics when he was employed as the campaign’s digital media director in 2016.

His position put him in the centre of allegations of Russian meddling in the outcome of the US elections.

During a Congressional inquiry, Parscale said he was “unaware of any Russian involvement in the digital and data operations of the 2016 Trump presidential campaign.”

He said he only collaborated with staff from Facebook, Google and Twitter, the Republican Party and controversial data firm Cambridge Analytica.
