Super Eagles players, Ahmed Musa and Shehu Abdullahi, would be observing the Ramadan fast when the team takes on South Africa on June 10 for a place in the 2019 AFCON tournament.

The players insist on observing it despite pleas by the head coach, Gernot Rohr to at least defer it.

This stance is expected to be taken by other Muslim players who would be called up for the match.

It is expected that Alhassan Ibrahim ‘Muazzam’ and Moroof Youssef of Zamalek will also insist on the fast and not opt out.

Rohr has explored the possibility of the Muslim contingent skipping the fast on the day of the game but does not seem to be making much headway as the players insist on keeping on with the fast.

Musa and Abdullahi are expected to start the game against South Africa though Rohr might pull them off early as he believes they would be incapable of giving their all to the team.

The game is to hold in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
