Nigerian wrestler Odunayo Adekuoroye on Wednesday failed to become the first African woman to win gold at the World Wrestling Championship.

The Commonwealth Games gold medallist lost 5-4 to 18-year-old Haruna Okuno from Japan in the 55kg final match, to settle for silver medal at the Paris championship

Adekuoroye had earlier in the day become the first ever female Nigerian wrestler to get to the final of the world championship.
