Rid Rivers Of Criminals, Fubara Tasks Police

Governor Siminalayi Fubara has issued a strong directive to the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Nwoyi Polycarp Emeka, urging him to eradicate criminals from the state and ensure the safety of its citizens.

During the CP’s courtesy visit to the Government House in Port Harcourt on Friday, Governor Fubara emphasized his administration’s unwavering commitment to providing continuous support to all security agencies in the state. This support aims to uphold the security of lives and properties within Rivers State.

Recognizing the crucial role of the police in combating crime and criminality, Governor Fubara stressed the need for regular logistical support from the government and essential information from the public to enhance the efficiency of the police force.

He said, “Make good use of your knowledge of the security landscape in Rivers State to effectively tackle crime and insecurities. I urge you to apply your wealth of experience in combating crime in the state.”

Governor Fubara expressed his displeasure with the activities of some police officers who were operating under the guise of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in the state. He directed the Commissioner of Police to investigate these illegal operations and put an immediate end to them.

Highlighting the collective responsibility of all stakeholders in ensuring security, the governor urged the Commissioner of Police to thoroughly address citizens’ complaints regarding security matters, as the people are directly affected during security breaches.

Additionally, Governor Fubara instructed the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Prof. Zacheous Adango, along with other relevant government agencies, to establish a robust synergy with the police and other security forces to effectively address security concerns.

CP Emeka, in response, assured that accurate information and intelligence would be employed under his leadership to combat crime and criminality in the state.
