The Confederation of African Football (Caf) has awarded Senegalese capital, Dakar the hosting rights of the 2018 African Footballer of the Year gala night.

The African football governing body has set January 8, 2019 as the date when also the most Promising Talent, Coach and best Women player of the Year from Africa would be recognised among other awards.

“The Head of State (Macky Sall), who received in audience the President of the African Football Confederation, Ahmad, on Thursday, has agreed that our capital is home to this major event of the continental football,” Senghor told the Senegalese Press Agency.

“They had already talked about it in Moscow at the World Cup, and this audience has confirmed everything.

“It is a great honor for our country and for Senegalese football to organise this event, and it has been decided that the event will be held in other African cities after it has been held in Dakar.”

Egypt star Mohamed Salah is the reigning African Footballer of the Year and is in the race to retain it.
