World Football governing body Fifa, has confirmed the usage of Video Assistant Referee at the Women’s World Cup this summer.

It was said that Fifa’s Organising Committee recommended the use of VAR for the tournament in France after successful assessment of the video refereeing system and planning in recent months.

However, Concise News gathered that a conclusion will be taken at the next meeting of the world governing body’s council meeting on the usage of VAR at the Mundial.

“The chairman of FIFA’s referee’s committee has updated us on the progress made with regard to the implementation of VAR at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2019,” Zvonimir Boban, FIFA’s deputy secretary general said.

“Based on the thorough work carried out over the past few months, FIFA is happy with the steps taken and the excellent job was done by FIFA’s refereeing team and the female referees involved.

“We are confident about proposing the use of VAR in France to the Fifa Council, as we are very positive about its implementation.”

VAR was successfully used in the men’s World Cup in Russia last summer.

The tournament will take place across nine host Cities in France: Grenoble, Le Havre, Lyon, Montpellier, Nice, Paris, Reims, Rennes and Valenciennes from June 7 to July 7.

Hosts France will take on the Korea Republic in the competition’s opening ceremony on June 7 at the Parc des Princes.
