Lagos Government Trains Technical College Staff

Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos state.

The Lagos state government has embarked on the training of technical colleges tutors in the state.

This is to empower them to handle additional responsibilities that will result from the proposed Technical Colleges to be established in Alimosho, Ibeju-Lekki and Badagary.

Speaking on Tuesday at a refresher course organised by the Lagos State Technical, Vocation and Education Board (LASTVEB) at Ikeja, the agency’s executive secretary, Mrs Omolara Erogbogbo, expressed confidence that the training will translate to improved productivity.

She also called on all students from the existing technical colleges in the Sse to improve their performances especially at the National Business and Technical Examinations beyond the feat recorded in the past.

Erogbogbo explained that the paradigm shift in the evaluation process of students from the former school inspection to the monitoring and evaluation process will provide a new mode of operation and evaluation for the teachers, hence the need to introduce the participants to the expectations of the new evaluation method.

“We need to further empower the management staff of our Technical Colleges to be able to self-evaluate the various colleges using the same instrument used by the external evaluators and achieve the same result”, she said.

“I remain an advocate of technical education. The technical college is not meant for pushovers or drop-outs. We should all ensure that our students perform better.” the Executive Secretary added.

Earlier, Director, Research, Planning and Inspectorate, LASTVEB, Matthew Olayanju said the refresher course is aimed at fashioning strategies to improve performance through experienced facilitators.
