AWCON2018: Three Nigerian Players Make Caf Best 11

The Confederation of African Football (Caf) on Tuesday announced their 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations Team of the Group Stage, with five Nigerian players making the 17-woman squad.

Reigning African footballer of the year, Asisat Oshoala, who bagged a hat-trick in the 6-0 whitewashing of Equatorial Guinea, made the cut.

Other Super Falcons players in the best 11 include goalkeeper Tochikwu Oluehi and defender Onome Ebi, while forwards Desire Oparanozie and Francisca Ordega, both with two goals each, were selected as substitutes.

Also in the squad are four players each from Cameroon and South Africa, while three and one made the cut from Ghana and Mali respectively.

Nigeria will take on Cameroon in the semi-finals of this year’s tournament on Tuesday, 27 November, 2018, in Accra, Ghana.

The winners will not only advance to the final; they will represent Africa at the 2019 Fifa Women’s World Cup in France.

The other semi-final match is between South Africa and Mali, who are in the semis for the first time.
