The victory in Dar es Salaam propelled the country to the continental stage for the first time since their debut appearance in 1980.

“It was an honour to have been given the opportunity to achieve great things with Tanzania football and I’m proud that what we set out to do as our first objective has been met,” Amuneke wrote on Instagram.

The former Barcelona forward also matched a Nigerian record as the second person from the country to lead another team to the Africa Cup of Nations after late Stephen Keshi’s feat with Togo.

Meanwhile, football enthusiasts in Ebonyi State are celebrating the Taifa Stars qualification for the 2019 AFCON with Amuneke as the helmsman.

Desmond Ome, Ebonyi Football Association secretary, congratulated Amuneke for the feat, noting that it was achieved through dint of hard work.

“The victory was achieved because the players, officials and the Tanzanian FA members keyed-into Amuneke’s hard work mantra.

“He made it clear from the onset that the AFCON qualification was his target and sought the collaboration of relevant stakeholders to achieve the feat,” he said.
