The West African Examination Council (Waec) has said persons who lost or have damaged their Waec certificates can apply for an attestation certificate from the body.

This followed the presentation of a Waec attestation certificate by the examination body to President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday. 

According to Waec, the attestation certificate was introduced in 2015 following rising cases of lost and or damaged certificates.

In addition, the body said it does not issue certificates more than once, prompting the introduction of attestation.

WHO SHOULD APPLY FOR WAEC ATTESTATION CERTIFICATE?

According to the regional examination body, the following persons qualify for the certificate of attestation are:

a). Those who lost their original Waec certificates.

b). Candidates whose original certificates were damaged.

REQUIREMENTS FOR WAEC ATTESTATION CERTIFICATE

To apply for the Waec attestation certificate, a candidate must have the following:

a). Letter of an application directed to Waec.

b). A police report on the damaged or lost Waec certificate.

c). A photocopy of the lost or destroyed Waec certificate.

d). Two recent passport-sized photos of the candidate.

e). A sworn affidavit for the collection of the attestation of the result.

f). An administrative fee of N20,000 paid to Waec.

However, the Waec attestation certificate does not contain subjects that the individual failed in the examination.
