Top Ekiti PDP Lawmaker Defects To APC

Sunday Akinniyi, former Chief Whip of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Akinniyi told reporters on Tuesday that he left the PDP due to Governor Ayodele Fayose’s alleged disrespect for key leaders of the party.

The lawmaker representing Ikere Constituency 2 had been suspended on 13 June by the assembly for allegedly sleeping during plenary in the last three years.

In his explanation, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Samuel Omotoso, said Akinniyi was suspended following a series of allegations levelled against him by the Leader of Business, Tunji Akinleye.
