Nigeria’s Minister of Sports Solomon Dalung has commiserated with the families and the Government of Cross River state over the electrocution of scores of football fans at a commercial viewing centre.

The football fans met their death when a high tension cable fell on the roof of the centre where they were watching a Uefa Europa league quarter-final duel between Manchester United and Anderlecht on Thursday.

Dalung’s message is contained in a statement made public by his spokesperson Nneka Anibeze.

Colossal loss

The minister said it was quite unfortunate that such a gory incident took place where youths usually gather to watch football.

”We in the Ministry of Youth and Sports commiserate with the Government of Cross River state, especially the families of the dead on this colossal loss of young people, his message read.

He prayed that the country never witness such occurrence again and for the repose of the souls of the dead.

”May God almighty console you at this time of grief’,” the sport minister added.
