Simeone Speaks on Atletico Madrid, Dortmund Key Match

Atletico Madrid manager, Diego Simeone, has remained elusive regarding his team’s tactics ahead of their crucial return leg against Borussia Dortmund, holding a narrow 2-1 lead heading into the match at Signal Iduna Park.

One of the pressing questions revolves around how Atletico will fill the void left by the suspension of Samuel Lino, with speculation focusing on whether Mario Hermoso will be included in the starting lineup.

Hermoso’s recent return from injury, sustained during a clash against Inter in March, adds an intriguing dimension to Atletico’s defensive setup, heightening anticipation among fans and pundits alike.

Meanwhile, the spotlight is also on Rodrigo Riquelme, who appears to be the frontrunner to step in for Lino. His potential inclusion in the starting XI underscores the depth of talent available to Simeone as he navigates the challenges posed by injuries and suspensions.

On Riquelme, Simeone said, “He is an important and special player for us. He doesn’t understand the game in any way, but has a special understanding. He can play anywhere in the defence. Riquelme gives us a lot of depth. Tomorrow we will decide.”

In terms of how he and his players were feeling, Simeone said it was a mix.

“With excitement, nerves, enthusiasm, adrenaline, responsibilities… I want to convey that the team is doing well.”

“We are working very well. We have all grown from the important results we have had in the league. That allowed us to grow within the football world. Tomorrow is going to be a good Champions League night.”

Regarding the key to progression, Diego Simeone was giving little away, beyond knowing how to handle it.

“The most important thing tomorrow is the whole thing. Whichever teams plays better, whichever team knows how to interpret all of it, is the one that will go through.
