Seattle Seahawks owner Paul Allen is reportedly interested in buying Chelsea, with Roman Abramovich thought to be willing to sell for £3 billion.

The billionaire Russian owner, 51, has been in charge of the Blues for 15 years and is reportedly happy to cash-in on his investment.

Abramovich will not sell quickly or easily though, having already rejected a £2.3bn bid, according to reports.

The Chelsea owner has suffered visa problems in the UK and has been forced to put plans for a new Stamford Bridge on hold.

Now Abramovich could be tempted into ending his long tenure in West London.

Britain’s richest man, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, is also thought to be keen on the Stamford Bridge top job, if he can stump up the £3bn asking price.

However, the race-leader appears to 65-year-old American business supremo Allen – who owns the Seahawks of the NFL, NBA side the Portland Trail Blazers and MLS team Seattle Sounders.

Allen is said to have met football agent Pini Zahavi earlier this month in New York to talk about the possibility of an Abramovich buy-out.

Zahavi is a close friend of the Blues owner and is intrigued about the prospect of owning a third sports teams, this time across the Atlantic.

Allen has a number of other business interests – most famously co-founding Microsoft with Bill Gates.
