Some members of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), will on April 25, 2017 know their fate after a Bayelsa State Magistrate Court fixed the date for ruling on the three-count charge of conspiracy, breach of public peace and unlawful gathering.

Forty-four members of the group were arrested while holding a meeting, by men of the Joint Military Task Force Code named Operation Delta Safe, in October 2016 in Yenagoa.

They were later handed over to the Police for prosecution.

During hearing at Magistrate Court 5 on Wednesday, Barrister Kingsley Nwosu, counsel to the arrested IPOB members, presented a no-case submission before the court.

He said the arrest and trial of the group members, was a conscious attempt to intimidate and violate the fundamental rights of people to freedom of association.

The lawyer also noted that the Nigeria Police have failed to provide credible witnesses to back the charges against the IPOB members.

Magistrate Umukoro, the presiding Magistrate, adjourned ruling till April 25, 2017.
