Acting President Yemi Osinbajo on Monday called on African leaders to rekindle their political will so as not to pass the ”burden of war, poverty and misery” to the next generation.

He, therefore, called for effectiveness of the African Union peace support operations, urging Regional Economic Communities and relevant international bodies to remain strategic pillars of peace, security and development of the Continent as envisioned in ”Agenda 2063”.

Osinbajo made the calls in his capacity as the Chairperson of the AU Peace and Security Council (PSC) for the month of July, at the 29th summit held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on Monday.

He stressed the importance of the full implementation of the African Peace and Security Architecture (APSA), especially the African Standby Force (ASF) and the Peace Fund.

”We must redouble our efforts and without equivocation, avail the necessary resources in order to successfully achieve the goals set out in Agenda 2063.

”We need to rekindle our political will and determination not to bequeath to the next generation of Africans the burden of wars, poverty and misery.”

”Our resolve to end war and conflicts in Africa is therefore our vote for a future of real growth and development for our continent,” he said.

The Agenda 2063 is a strategic framework for the socio-economic transformation of the Africa over the next 50 years.
