Opera has announced on its blog that it has completed the reconstruction of Opera Neon and integrated it into a desktop browser codenamed Opera Reborn.

Opera Reborn has been under construction for some time, and now, the update is ready for download on the Opera site.

The web browser now has a major redesign in its user interface which also features quick access to popular messaging apps including WhatsApp, Telegram, and Facebook Messenger.

How it works

Through a sidebar, users can log into their WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and Telegram accounts, and begin chatting from the browser, without the need to install any extensions or apps.

”Browsing and chatting simultaneously is cumbersome and inefficient now, as you need to switch between tabs when responding to a message. We believe this needs to change. That’s why we bring you Opera Reborn, the first browser to allow messengers to reside within your browser, without the need to install any extensions or apps,” Opera posted on its site.

You can drag and drop images from anywhere to a messenger’s icon on the sidebar, to share photos. There is also a menu button which will enable you to logout from messengers inside the browser itself.

Opera Reborn’s redesigned UI also offers animated icons, colourful themes, and a dark mode with dark toolbars.

Performance and security changes

Most graphics processing units (GPUs) can decode videos highly efficiently. With this release, more videos can be sent to the GPU for decoding on Windows. This will allow for significantly higher framerates, higher resolutions, and lower battery usage for such videos.

Opera adds in-form warnings for sensitive fields when the top-level page is not HTTPS (HyperText Transfer Protocol secure). Whenever you start filling in your password or credit card number on a page, which is not HTTPS, the warning will appear.
