Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo state has expressed optimism that the current crisis rocking the State house of Assembly would soon be resolved.

He made this known after a closed-door meeting with Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo, on Wednesday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

The Governor said the Speaker, Hon. Jumoke Akindele, is ready to step aside once the House is properly reconstituted, to allow peace reign.

He said, ”The sitting speaker has made it abundantly clear that she is ready to step aside, she is ready to resign her position”.

But Mimiko faulted the process through which the Speaker was removed, calling it unconstitutional.

”The group that purportedly impeached her, not a simple majority can impeach a speaker, it has to be two-thirds.

”That is to tell that 13 out of the 26 members of the House, do not have the constitutional or legal empowerment to impeach the speaker”, he said.

Governor Mimiko further told reporters that he did not discuss the issue with Acting President Osinbajo, as it is an internal affair and some leaders in the state are already working on how to resolve the crisis.
