Another step into the Islamic clothing line has seen Nike embrace the production of hijab designed for female Muslim athletes.

This fashion versatility adds after Nike launched plus-size sportswear range for women earlier in March, keeping retailers in anticipation for the release of this pro- hijab design.

The first athletes to try this product which took one year to plan includes female Muslim skater Zahra Lari.

“The Nike Pro Hijab may have been more than a year in the making, but its impetus can be traced much further back, to an ongoing cultural shift that has seen more women than ever embracing sport,” a statement from Nike read.

Global Nike Spokeswoman Megan Saalfeld who spoke with Al Arabiya English, said “The Nike Pro Hijab was designed as a direct result of our athletes telling us they needed this product to perform better, and we hope that it will help athletes around the world do just that.”

Megan also said the idea of designing an athletic hijab came after female Emirati Olympic weightlifting athlete Amna Al Haddad visited Nike’s sport research lab at their global Oregon headquarters.

Amna had complained of having just one hijab that worked for her which she had to wash by hand each night in the sink during competitions.

The Pro-hijab will be released in 2018.
