    UI Releases 2020/2021 Post-UTME Results

    The University of Ibadan (UI) has released the results of its Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) screening exercise for candidates who chose the institution. This is contained in a statement by the institution’s Director of Public Communications, Mr Olatunji Oladejo, in Ibadan on Saturday. Oladejo stated that the Registrar, Mrs Olubunmi Faluyi,  announced the release of the results via the university’s Official Bulletin No. 4372 of Saturday, 17 April, 2021. Candidates were advised to check the admission portal for the results. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalled that the computer-based screening exercise took place from Tuesday, April 6 to Saturday, April 10, 2021. (NAN)

    The Nigeria Security & Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has commenced the selection process into the proposed Female Squad from it’s array of gallant female personnel drawn from various Commands of the Federation including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, mni, Commandant General of the NSCDC who flagged off the Selection process at the National Headquarters in Abuja said the Special Female Squad was one of his many strategies to reposition, re-jig, revamp and rejuvenate the Corps to a world class organization. In his words, “The Female Squad which will compete favourably with their male counterparts in all ramifications will undergo three weeks (3) intensive and rigorous training as well as capacity building programmes in one of our Training Colleges after the successful ones scale through the preliminary tests of competence, experience, psychological evaluation and comprehensive medical examination to determine their fitness for the program.” Dr. Audi, stated that plan is underway to make the proposed female Squad combat ready and formidable as they will be specially trained for physical and tactical maneuvering especially for special intervention and operations which will in no small measure help to address some of our internal security challenges.   • Commandant Calls For Synergy In Tackling Insecurity

    AVM Ebenezer Alade, Commandant of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC) Jaji, on Friday called for more synergy among security agencies to effectively combat the security challenges in the country. Alade made the appeal in Jaji, Kaduna State, while closing the 2021 defence and security symposium organised for students of Senior Course 43. “The need for synergy among security agencies to effectively combat security challenges in the country is vital,” he stressed. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) report that, the theme for the symposium was, “Standardization and interoperability of equipment in the armed forces of Nigeria”. Alade noted that interoperability of equipment among the services was required to jointly tackle the country’s security challenges effectively. He said that the symposium was to add value to the students and agitate their minds on the all important concept of standardization of equipment for interoperability between the services. The commandant advised the students to take something out of the symposium as they articulate position papers which they will present to the service chiefs in June. Alade urged them to ensure that their submission was good for implementation by appropriate authorities to address some of the national security challenges. (NAN)

  • RCCG Apologises To Fashola Over False Claim On Road Construction

    The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Thursday in Abuja tendered an “unreserved apology” to the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing over its allegation of “false claims on the rehabilitation of Ife-Afewara Road in Osun State” saying it was based on a false premise. The RCCG, in a petition to the Senate, had claimed that it had good reason to believe that the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing had paid N151.51 million to Messrs. Cartill Construzioni Nigeria Limited for the rehabilitation of Ife-Ifewara Road, a work which, according to the petitioner, was indeed carried out by the Church. In the petition dated 24th March, 2021, Secretary to the General Overseer of the RCCG, Pastor Niyi Adebanjo, claimed that the Church, after carrying out the rehabilitation of the road, learnt that the aforementioned company, which was awarded the contract since 2010 and had abandoned the work for over six years, had been paid by the Ministry for the work praying that the Money be retrieved from the company.     The West Africa Examination Council, WAEC, has informed candidates and the general public of the new modalities for the collection of Attestation of Results and printed Certificates by candidates from offices of the Council in Nigeria. WAEC said the new modalities for collection of certificates apply to Private Candidates only, as School Candidates are expected to channel their requests through their schools. The modalities for Requests for Attestation of Results shall apply to both Private and School Candidates. A statement issued said, “The new modalities are a clear departure from what obtained in the past, where it was mandatory for private candidates to collect their certificates or Attestation of Results from the WAEC office in the state where they sat the examination.     On Wednesday 14th April 2021, the inmates at Medium Security Custodial Centre Ubiaja attempted a jailbreak. This started as an unrest by the inmates refusing to return to their cells on been opened out as it is the routine practice. Investigation later revealed that some hardened criminals among the inmates instigated others to riot having heard of what happened at Oko, Benin and Owerri to effect jail break for possible escape. This led to violence, damaging of cells, the admin blocks, medical office and boring of holes on the perimeter fence in a bid to facilitate their escape from custody. They were eventually repelled and overpowered due to the re-enforcement of armed personnel of the Correctional Service, the Police Force, Nigerian Army, NSCDC and the DSS who were deployed to the Custodial center to ensure calm and full control of the situation.     EFCC Arrests Five Suspected Internet Fraudsters In Port Harcourt

    Operatives of the Port Harcourt Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested five suspected Internet fraudsters. They were arrested in an early morning operation on Wednesday, April 14, 2021, along New Airport Road, Port Harcourt, Rivers State. The suspects: Raymond Poi; Kelvin Okonofua; Anderson Aforke Adjukpa, Marvellous Ahre and Chijioke Amadi, were arrested based on verified intelligence about their suspicious involvement in internet- related fraud. Items recovered from the suspects include five iPhones; four Android phones; one Nokia Java phone; one Dell Laptop; two iMac apple Laptop and two ash- coloured Toyota Camry cars. They will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.

    The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Enugu Zone on Thursday, April 15, 2021 restituted the sum of N67,523,000 (Sixty-seven Million, Five Hundred and Twenty Three Thousand Naira) to one Mr. Emmanuel Onyekachukwu Onah , a trader based in Onitsha, Anambra State. Onah’s ordeal started sometime in 2019 when he transferred the sum of N75, 760,540.00 (Seventy-Five Million, Seven Hundred and Sixty Thousand, Five Hundred and Forty Naira), to the duo of Tega Esinone and Obiajulu Umeagukwu for onward transmission to his business partner, Crecedor Industrial Co. Ltd in Hong Kong. The suspects converted the money to their own use. After efforts to recover his money from the suspects failed, Onah petitioned the EFCC. The Commission in the course of investigating the scam, initiated a non-conviction based forfeiture process which culminated in a December 1, 2020 ruling by Justice I.N Buba of the Federal High Court, Enugu ordering the forfeiture of the sum of N67, 522,831.55(Sixty Seven Million, Five Hundred and Twenty Two Thousand, Eight Hundred and Thirty-one Naira Fifty-five kobo) in a new generation bank account belonging to Tega Esinone to the victim.     NCDC Announces 180 New Cases Of COVID-19

    The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) has announced 80 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 164,080. The NCDC disclosed this on its official Twitter handle on Thursday. It stated that the country reported no death relating to COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, while the country’s death toll was 2,061 since the beginning of the pandemic. The agency said the new cases were reported across 11 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). It said Lagos reported 29 cases, Rivers 19, Zamfara 6, Akwa Ibom 4, Edo 4, Osun 4, Plateau 4, Ogun 3, Kano 3,  Nasarawa 2, FCT 1 and Oyo 1.  NCDC however said 154,285 people had recovered from the deadly virus, representing recovery rate of 94 per cent, as the number of recoveries on Thursday increased by 15 in the country. It said that the country had also tested 1,803,177 people since the first confirmed case of COVID-19 was announced on Feb. 27, 2020. The agency added that a multi-sectoral National Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), activated at Level 3, had continued to coordinate the national response activities in the country.     Operatives of the Anti-kidnapping Unit of Police Command in Bayelsa have arrested one Solomon Ibe, 43 years, and Chris Amuka 23 years at Ovom Waterside, Yenagoa, for the alleged possession of 125 rounds of live ammunition. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Asinim Butswat, in a statement on Tuesday, said the suspects were arrested while trying to ferry one bag of weed, suspected to be Indian hemp, to the Southern Ijaw Local Government Area.
