Troubled Abia State Gets New Police Commissioner

The Police authorities have replaced Adeleye Oyebade with Anthony Ogbizi as the new Commissioner of Police in Abia state, Southeast Nigeria.

Details of Adeleye’s removal has yet to be made public but it might be connected to the recent clashes between members of the Indigenous People of Biafra and the Nigerian Army.

However, Adeleye has handed over to the newly appointed Commissioner, urging the men and officers of the command to give his successor their maximum support and cooperation.

Meanwhile, Ogbizi has immediately assumed duty after a brief handover ceremony at the state police headquarters in Umuahia, with a call on residents to embark on profitable ventures and ensure peace in the state.

The new Commissioner condemned the razing of Ariaria Police Station in Aba and expressed his resolve to work hard to make Abia safe for all.

Ogbizi warned against clamour for disintegration of the country, saying there would never be ”a republic within a republic”.
