NEMA Issues Urgent Appeal as Torrential Rainfall Hits Lagos

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has issued a heartfelt appeal to the residents of Lagos State as the metropolis grapples with unrelenting rainfall that began at 0200 hours and is anticipated to persist until 13:00 hours.

In response to this weather crisis, NEMA, in collaboration with other emergency agencies, has launched a comprehensive assessment effort, concentrating on critical locations. Their teams are actively engaging with affected communities and providing immediate solutions to mitigate the situation.

As a result of the ongoing downpour, certain vulnerable groups have been compelled to seek refuge in temporary shelters. Meanwhile, adults across the affected areas are working tirelessly to safeguard their properties against the encroaching floods.

One notable case is the assistance NEMA is currently rendering to a building owner whose fence has collapsed, posing a threat to the structural integrity of an adjacent bungalow. Under the directive of the Agency’s Director General, reconstruction efforts are underway to stabilize the foundation and prevent any further disaster.

In addition to these on-ground actions, NEMA is mobilizing essential relief supplies to aid approximately 200 individuals in the Orile Agege Local Government Area. The materials include clothing for children and women, mattresses, antiseptics, and other necessities, all aimed at providing immediate assistance to those in need during this trying period.
