Ndigbo Nationwide Rest Assured Of Their Safety – South-East Governors

The chairman of the South-East Governors Forum, Governor Dave Umahi, on Monday said the Forum is keeping a keen eye on happenings surrounding the quit notice issued to Igbos living in northern Nigeria by Arewa youths.

Speaking after a meeting of the forum members in Enugu, the Ebonyi state governor said they, alongside their Northern counterparts, are well abreast of developments.

In a communique issued after the meeting, the forum, among other things, reassured Ndigbo nationwide of their safety.

Also included in the communique are issues on centring on economic integration and power.

On the quit notice, the governors said: “We want to ensure our people in northern Nigeria that we are in constant touch with the northern governors’ forum and we commend them for their position to make sure that the lives and property of our people are fully secured.

“We will continue to monitor the development to make sure that no Igbo man living anywhere in this country is living in fear, or is disadvantaged, or the life threatened.”

The forum urged residents of Anambra state to allow for a peaceful election in the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state.

Plans to exploit the gas deposits in the region for purposes of power generation and consumption were also stated in the communique.
