Benue State government has revealed that over 200,000 students in public secondary schools in the state were forced out of school due to herdsmen invasion, Concise News reports. The Government also said that more than 1,000 secondary school teachers have stopped work due to incessant attacks. Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has congratulated Russell Tiza Orhii for emerging the World Champion at the 2019 World Powerlifting Championship in Sweden recently, Concise News reports. In a statement on Sunday signed by Governor Ortom’s Chief Press Secretary, Terver Akase, the governor describes the 25-year-old Powerlifting Champion as a pride of Benue State and the entire county. Residents of Gbagir settlement, a suburb of Zaki Biam in Ukum local Government area of Benue state have staged a peaceful protest over insecurity in the area. Concise News reports that the protest followed reported rampant incidents of kidnappings and killings, which has become recurrent decimals in the community. Gbagir is a farming settlement located one- hour drive from Zaki Biam town, the headquarters of Ukum local Government area in Benue north east senatorial district. The President-General of Tiv sociocultural group in Benue State, Mdzough U Tiv, Chief Edward Ujege, on Saturday advised a former governor of the state, George Akume, to ask Tiv people for forgiveness, Concise News reports. When asked to comment on the call for peace by Akume, Tor Tiv, Prof James Ayatse, and ex-governor Gabriel Suswam, at the burial of Simeon, son of the late Joseph Tarka, at Wannune, Tarka Local Government Area of the state on Friday, Ujege gave the advice according to Punch. A 23-year-old man, Olofu Ejeh of Ogilebe village, Adoka in Otukpo local government area of Benue state has been charged for allegedly clubbing a 70-year-old woman to death, Concise News reports. The accused in company of others were alleged to have murdered the septuagenarian after labelling her a witch. Prosecuting Police Officer, Sergeant Friday Kanshio had told the court that from the First Information Report, FIR, with the Police, one Edoh Agboh in company of his sister Janet Sule had on June 1 filed a report with the Police in Otukpo over the matter.
