The Lagos state government has announced the commencement of the screening and selection exercise for facilitators of the CodeLagos programme.

According to the announcement, the programme would kick off in April 2017 with the commissioning of 300 Coding Centres across six Education Districts in Lagos State.

It is expected to involve at least one million Lagos residents who would be taught how to code, learn new skills and also create employment opportunities.

The ministry stated that the Centers will also be set up at State public libraries and other community spaces.

Obafela Bank-Olemoh, Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, told news correspondents that CodeLagos is a programme that is geared towards creating a tech-driven citizenry that would be intelligent, generate employment and business opportunities.

He underscored the commitment of the State Government, under the leadership of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, to position Lagos State as the technology frontier in Africa saying it was also in line with the Lagos Smart City initiative in partnership with Dubai Smart City.

Application for the CodeLagos programme is online and just entails the submission of the applicant’s bio-data and completion of a general assessment.

Qualified candidates must be available to participate in all the required training which would be provided by the State in collaboration with private sector partners within the technology sector.

“They must also be willing to commit at least 12 hours weekly to facilitate CodeLagos courses at designated centres upon the launch of the initiative in April,” he said.

The portal, www.codelagos.org, has been thrown open for interested applicants to register.
