26-Year-Old Nigerian Man Docked For Stealing Kpomo

A 26-year-old man identified as Adesanya Tobi, was arraigned in an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing 44 pieces of cow skin popularly called ‘kpomo’.

According to reports, Tobi broke into a meatsellers shop to carry out the act and stole an estimated N80,000 worth of kpomo.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Eruada Victor, said Tobi committed the offence on the 25th of March, 2017 at Ijaye Bus Stop, Ojokoro, Lagos.

Eruada further explained that the accused broke into the shop of a woman identified as Yusuf Iyabo.

He added that Tobi was caught red-handed by a vigilante group in the area with iron rods and cutlasses with which he damaged the shop’s locks.

If convicted, sections 285 and 308 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011 stipulate a three-year jailtime.

Not guilty

However, the accused whose address was not disclosed pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of burglary and theft levelled against him.

The magistrate, G.O Anifowoshe, granted bail to Tobi in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Anifowoshe adjourned the case till April 17.
