The Presidency has said that President Muhammadu Buhari and governors of states in Nigeria’s North West sub-region are working towards ending insurgency in the zone.

Concise News reports that president Buhari’s media aide Garba Shehu made this known on Sunday night.

He said the Buhari administration and the governments of states in the Northwest were pursuing an urgent revamp of the national security apparatus in the sub-region.

Shehu’s statement followed the killing of 34 persons in an attack on Tungar Kafau and Gidan Wawa communities in Shinkafi areas of Zamfara, one of the seven states in the sub-region.

According to Shehu, Buhari, who expressed sadness over the renewed attacks, charged all security agencies to draw up a long-term strategic defence plan to begin its immediate implementation.

“Under the plan, states are joining the federal government in supporting the security and military operations by providing logistical support,” he said.

“The National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA and the various State Emergency Management Agencies, SEMA are expected to streamline their operations to provide succor to displaced persons, thousands of whom are taking refuge in the neighboring Niger Republic.

“The full implementation of the plan is expected to provide security for residents to return to deserted communities.”
