Fake Soldier, One Other Jailed For Assault

A 24-year-old Fake soldier, Azeez Abdulhameed, of Aga village, Ganmo, Kwara State and one Abdulsalam Jimoh, 25,of Ode-Afanda area, Ilorin have been convicted by an Ilorin Chief Magistrates’ Court for beating up a man to a state of coma.

The convicts, who admitted to have committed the offence, pleaded with the court for leniency and promised not to indulge in such act any longer.

Before their conviction, the prosecutor, Matthew Ologbonsaye, had prayed the court to try them summarily since they pleaded guilty to the charges.

The magistrate, Mrs. K.A. Yahaya granted the oral application of the prosecutor and convicted the accused of the offences of criminal conspiracy, causing grievous hurt and impersonation.

The court said that since there was no cogent reason before it and coupled with the fact that the accused could not show cause while they should not be convicted for the offences, the accused stand convicted of the offences which contravened Sections 97, 245 and 132 of Penal Code Law.

Meanwhile, the court reserved sentence of the convicts and adjourned the case till April 17 for judgment.

Trouble started for the convicts when one Michael Adewole of Kam Wire Industries, Asa-Dam road, Ilorin reported on April 2 to the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, Ilorin that one Rafiu Mechanic (now at large) brought two men to his house who claimed to be serving military men and beat him to a state of coma on just a little misunderstanding.

The Police First Information Report (FIR) stated that during the course of investigation at the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Ilorin the convicts confessed that they were fake soldiers.
