I Am More Concerned Of Points, Not Fancy Play – Preko

Coach of FC Ifeanyiubah, Yaw Preko

Coach of FC Ifeanyiubah, Yaw Preko, has stated that he is now a lot more concerned about acquiring more points and climbing up the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) log than concentrating on his team’s good or bad display on match days.

Preko said this after his side’s 2-0 win over Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) FC on Wednesday,

The  home victory pushed the Anambra Warriors to the second spot after the two above them dropped points.

Goals from Yaya Kone and Pascal Seka made secured the maximum points for the host.

This has boosted their title credentials as they now occupy second position for the first time this season – albeit on goal difference.

Although there are 18 more matches to the end of the season, Preko believes the league has reached the stage where only the points really matter.

“Where we’ve reached, it’s all about picking up the three points, so after losing in Lagos we had to do whatever it would take to get the three points (in Nnewi) and we managed to get the maximum points, so we move on and see how it goes,” Preko said.

“We are in the second half of the season, it’s not all about fine, fine football anymore it’s about picking up the three points and they did.

“You get the three points before you think about entertaining the fans,”  he explained.

Satisfactory performance

Preko  said he remained satisfied with the way his boys played against ABS FC though he still thinks improvement is necessary.

“The boys are playing under stress, they want to win; they want to play (well) and you can’t get all these at the same time. We went to MFM and in the second half we played very well but we couldn’t get a point.”

However, the coach is of the opinion that ABS gave a good fight.

“They came, they played but we frustrated them and got the three points.”

The next game of the Anambra-based team is a visit to the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt to face Rivers United on June 11.
