Vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Nigeria’s 2019 election, Peter Obi, has said rigging would only place incompetent persons in power.

Obi and Atiku Abubakar lost the election to President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

They have rejected the results and gone to court to challenge Buhari’s win.

Speaking in a statement over the weekend, Obi rued the “rigging recorded in this year’s general elections.”

According to him, the development has rued the touted integrity of the Buhari government.

“The only thing rigging does to a country is that it continues to keep incompetent people in office, and as a result rather than put energy in creating jobs to engage its teeming youths, it instead channels it trying to contain all sorts of vices and brigandage,” he said.
