Super Eagles and head coach Gernot Rohr are in pole position for awards at the 2017 Aiteo/Caf awards billed for Thursday.

Gernot Rohr who guided the three-time African champions to a sixth World Cup outing will battle Egypt coach Hector Cuper and L’Hussein Amoutta of Moroccan club Wydad Casablanca for the Coach of the Year.

On the other hand, the Super Eagles are in the gunning for the Team of the Year.

Although they missed out of the 2017 Afcon, the side booked a place at the soccer showpiece with a game to spare in a group that included Cameroon, Algeria and Zambia.

They will see off competition from Egypt who qualified for Russia 2018 for the first time in 28 years.

At the Afcon 2017, they got to the final but lost to the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon.

Also, Super Falcons Asisat Oshoala and Nigeria’s U20 women’s team, the Falconets are hopefuls for awards.

Oshoala is gunning for the Women’s Footballer of the Year with the Falconets aiming to win the Women’s Team of the Year.
