His Early Life

David Adeleke known by stage name Davido was born in Atlanta Georgia on November 21, 1992. He was born as the last child into the home of Mr Adedeji Adeleke and late Mrs Veronica Adeleke, an indigene of Ede, Osun State. His father is a Nigerian business magnate and his late mother was a university lecturer.

Davido attended British International School, Lagos from where he moved to Oakwood University to study Business Administration. He, however, moved back to Nigeria to complete his education at Babcock University, Ilishan Remo, Ogun State, where he bagged B.Sc Music.

Music Career

The ‘Aye’ crooner’s interest in music began during his time at Oakwood University. He bought musical equipment and started making beats, in addition to recording vocal references. He dropped out of Oakwood University due to bad grades and relocated to London, where he focused more of his energy towards vocals as opposed to production.

Upon return to Nigeria in 2011, his music career was sidelined after he agreed to honuor his father by enrolling at Babcock University. In July 2015, the artist earned a music degree from Babcock after his father paid the university to erect a music department.

Kicking off his musical career, Davido co-owned HKN Music (a record label home to his cousins Sina Rambo, B. Red and DeeKay) alongside his elder brother, Adewale Adeleke as its chairman.

His debut album Omo Baba Olowo, released in 2012, was initiated by the bringing out of singles “Back When” featuring Naeto C, “Dami Duro”, “All of You”, “Overseas” featuring Sina Rambo, “Ekuro”, “Gbon Gbon” and “Feel Alright” featuring Ice Prince.

Between 2013 and 2015, Davido released the singles “Gobe”, “One of a Kind”, “Skelewu”, “Aye”, “Tchelete (Goodlife)” featuring Mafikizolo, “Naughty” featuring DJ Arafat, “Owo Ni Koko”, “The Sound” and “The Money” featuring Olamide.

In January 2016, Davido signed a record deal with Sony Music. Few months after signing the Sony deal, the singer started his own label, Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) which he kick-started with Dremo and Mayorkun as the first artistes thereby dropping his cousins, Sina Rambo and B. Red.

Davido has since collaborated with both local and international acts. He collaborated with Meek Mill’s for ‘Fans Mi’, South African singing group, Mafikizo for their single Tchelete, Diamond Plantinumz for ‘Number one’.

On November 30, 2017, Davido won the best African act at the MOBO Awards and also became the first African act to perform live at the awards.

He also became the first African-based artist to have received his award on the BET Awards main stage. His award was presented by Hollywood actor Omari Hardwick and actress Tika Sumpter.

Davido is a good talent which can never go unnoticed, he has served as brand ambassador/influencer for different brands.

Endorsements

In 2010, the artist signed N30 million endorsement deal with MTN. The deal unveiled him as the face of MTN Pulse, a marketing campaign for Nigerian youths.

He was also signed by Guinness Nigeria On October 24, 2013, as part of the deal, Davido performed at the Guinness World of More Concert alongside P-Square, D’banj, Wizkid, Burna Boy, Olamide, Chidinma, Waje and Tiwa Savage, among others.

His recent endorsement was the unveiling of the ‘Aye’ Crooner by Infinix, a smartphone manufacturing company in Nigeria for an undisclosed fee. The deal is expected to be worth millions of Naira.

Davido has received numerous awards to his credit since his breakthrough in the entertainment industry.

Personal Life

The Nigerian singer has two daughters. He welcomed his first daughter, Aurora Imade Adeleke, born on 14th May 2015 with Sophie Momodu, an entrepreneur, while his second daughter, Hailey Veronica Adeleke with Amanda on 9th of May 2017 in Atlanta, USA.

He is currently in a relationship with his university schoolmate, Chioma Rowland. The two have been spending lots of time together even during the singer’s tours.

The singer is reportedly worth about $14 million.
