The Nigeria Customs Service on Thursday announced that owners of all vehicles within the country whose customs duty have not been paid, should do so between Monday 13th March and Wednesday 12th April 2017.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali, and made public by the service acting public relation officer,  Joseph Attah.

Visit nearest zonal office

According to the statement, motor dealers and private owners of vehicles who are yet to pay their customs duty should visit the nearest Customs Zonal Office to pay the appropriate fee for it.

The statement named Lagos, Kaduna, Portharcourt and Bauchi Customs offices as the four zonal offices where the payments can be made.

Authenticity of vehicles

It also urged all private car owners who are not sure of the authenticity of their vehicles’ customs documents to visit any of the service’s zonal offices to verify in order not to bridge the provision of the law.

It further pleaded with defaulters to make amends within the one-month grace period, adding that ”there would be an aggressive anti-smuggling operation to seize as well as prosecute owners of smuggled vehicles after the deadline.”
