An express train was forced to stop on Tuesday when a cow escaped from an abattoir near the city of Buehl in south-western Germany.
According to reports, this happened on the Rheintalbahn railway section, which is one of the most important north-south connections for European rail transport.
It was gathered that the cow remained on the tracks for over an hour.
According to a report credited to the police, the escape attempt proved futile as a hunter was called to kill the animal.
The Intercity-Express was said to have stopped at around 5 a.m. (0400 GMT) to avoid hitting the cow.
