Stop Being Stubborn, Release Nnamdi Kanu – Peter Obi Tells Buhari
By Ogbolu George
Former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi has asked the Federal Government to release Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
He made the call while speaking with newsmen in Enugu on Thursday.
Dialogue with IPOB
Obi said the federal government need to engage the Biafra activist in a dialogue as that is the only way the agitation could be resolved.
”I wish to appeal to the federal government to change its hard-line posture on this issue and yield to the persistent clamour for the release of Nnamdi Kanu and other Biafra activists so as to douse the tension in the country, especially in the South-east and sSouth-south geopolitical zones,” he said.
”The federal government should engage them in dialogue. Every agitation in the world is resolved through dialogue and not by means of force,” he said.
Non violent agitation
The ex-governor said the agitation for Biafra was not violent and does not violate either the Nigerian constitution or the international laws.
”The fact that they had been granted bails that were not obeyed makes it even more pertinent to set them free now.
”We are in a democratic regime and it is important that the rule of law should be obeyed no matter whose case is involved,” Obi said.
