Anti-gay Comments Put British-Nigerian In Trouble
By Rashidat Akashat
A Labour Party Councillor and an Evangelical Pastor Chika Amadi has been suspended over anti-gay comments referred to as homophobic.
The Guardian reports that the British-Nigerian councillor had allegedly shared anti-gay contents on her social media page and called Pride Marchers abnormal people comparing them to paedophiles.
It was reported that she allegedly shared a photo from a Toronto Pride march in which a young girl covered her eyes as a naked man walked past.
Homophobic statements
Amadi tweeted: “Walking about naked in front of children is nothing but pedophilia being labelled liberalism.”
“Evil. If you walk around naked in front of my children for whatever depraved reason, the Consuming Fire God I serve will put you to sudden sleep.”
In another tweet, she wrote: “Try me try my God. Walk naked in front of my child, you will know whether you are normal or not.”
It was gathered from her Facebook page that she shared a post from the Gambian President Adama Barrow saying: “Homosexuality is anti-humanity. I have never seen a homosexual chicken, or turkey. If you are convicted of homosexuality in this country, there will be no mercy for offenders. We will put you in the female wing of the prison.”
A Facebook user commented on one of her posts saying: “Vultures will eat their flesh,” to which she responded: “Amen. Thank you for standing with me and others in that circumstance.”
Reactions
To this development, the Labour Party reacted through a statement stating that she has been suspended.
“Chika Amadi has been suspended… pending an investigation.”
They further classed her comments as “offensive, distasteful and homophobic.”
The Conservative Party also reacted in a statement saying what the councillor did was totally wrong and unacceptable, therefore urging the Labour party to immediately withdraw the whip.
