President of the Nigeria Football Federation Amaju Pinnick on Thursday promised to double the win bonus for the Super Falcons’ final clash with South Africa at the 2018 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations in Ghana.

The two teams will take to the pitch in Accra on Saturday, with Nigeria seeking a record ninth title while the South Africans are aiming for their first ever triumph.

The defending champions lost 1-0 to the Banyana Banyana in their first match at the competition, but recorded wins against Zambia, Equatorial Guinea and Cameroon to reach the final for the 9th time.

Pinnick, who made the pledge when he met with the players and officials at the AH Hotel, Accra on Thursday, also delivered good wishes of President Muhammadu Buhari and Nigerians to the team.

The Nigerian ladies were paid 3,000 dollars for a win in the group phase but the football house increased the win bonus to 5,000 dollars for the Final.

Pinnick said: “I want to let you know that the Government and the good and great people of Nigeria are happy with your performance in the championship so far. They are looking forward to you retaining the trophy by beating South Africa on Saturday.

“Let me commend the lofty commitment, dedication and resilience that you have displayed so far in the championship, alongside that unique Nigerian spirit that was most in evidence against the Cameroonians in the semi final. You are indeed true champions, and we believe you will retain the Cup on Saturday. Go out there and win on Saturday and earn yourselves $10,000 each, as against the $5,000 that the NFF earlier promised.”

And following Pinnick’s promise, the players, it was learned, vowed to subdue the South Africans.

”All smiles! For @PinnickAmaju promise of doubling the winning bonuses for @CAF_AWCON final win, @NGSuper_Falcons have vowed not only to bring back #TotalAWCON18 trophy, but also put up a good showing against South Africa for his birthday gift,” a tweet on the team’s official handle read.
