Atiku Reveals Why EFCC Arrested His Son-in-law, Lawyer

The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 election, Atiku Abubakar, has said that his lawyer and son-in-law were arrested because they supported his presidential ambition.

The former vice president said his son-in-law Babale Abdullahi, and Uyiekpen Giwa-Osagie, his lawyer, were being allegedly detained for identifying with him.

Abdullahi, who is also the finance director of group of companies owned by Atiku, was reportedly arrested on Saturday by operatives of the Economic Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The security agents were said to have searched his residence as well as his office before taking him along with them.

The incident occurred more than two weeks after Giwa-Osagie was also picked by the anti-graft agency for alleged money laundering.

Writing via his Twitter handle on Monday, Atiku urged “those persecuting” the two to bear in mind that justice and peace is for all Nigerians.

“My son in law and lawyer have been detained, one for 3 weeks and the other recently. They are paying the price for supporting me,” he tweeted.

“I urge those now persecuting them to remember that a government’s mandate is to pursue peace and justice for all, and not just those who support them.”

Atiku had earlier claimed that Abdullahi’s arrest was aimed at discouraging him from challenging the outcome of the election in court.

He lost the presidential election to President Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC) with a margin of over three million votes.

But the Wazirin Adamawa rejected the result of the February 23 poll, claiming it heavily manipulated as he vowed to challenge the outcome in court.
