Amnesty Int’l Insists Nigerian Army Abused Human Rights

Amnesty International has insisted that the Nigerian military violated human rights as it earlier reported.

The group, in a statement by its media aide Isa Sanusi, said it stood by its findings against the army and seek for independent investigation.

It was reported that the Nigerian Army constituted a panel to investigate the claims by the rights group that the army committed war crime in the course of carrying out its duties.

”Our call for an investigation that is independent, impartial and thorough; criteria that this panel clearly does not meet.”

”We maintain that the nine senior commanders named in our report should be the subject of an effective and independent investigation.”

“To this end we welcome the panel’s recommendation that there should be a Presidential Commission of Inquiry into these allegations of horrific war crimes and crimes against humanity committed in north-east Nigeria,” the statement read.
