Ahmad Ahmad, a candidate for the position of Confederation of African Football (Caf) President, is expected in Nigeria today, the Malagasy FA has confirmed.

It was gathered that Ahmad, the current Vice President of the Madagascar Senate, will arrive in Lagos from Burkina Faso and move straight to Abuja.

In the FCT he will meet with Sports Minister, Solomon Dalung and other Nigerian football stakeholders before taking his campaign to another West African country.

The 57-year-old is the first serious challenger to incumbent president, Issa Hayatou, who has been in the position for 29 year.

The Madagascan has been crisscrossing the continent, seeking support for his bid for a new body, where, according to him, ‘football will take centre stage again.’

He recently informed a gathering of football leaders in the continent that “our football has been too strongly relying too much on its ‘official’ course since 1957 when CAF was created. It is now high time for it to free itself and to update with the current situation.”

And in Nigeria, Ahmad is expected to explain how he would lead Caf to achieve financial transparency, promoting youth and women football, new legal protection and joining and focusing on new governance of Fifa.
