The wheels seem to have been put in motion as members of the House of Representatives from the North-West zone declared their intention to support President Muhammadu Buhari should he seek re-election.

This was announced by the leader of the caucus, Alhassan Doguwa (Kano-Doguwa/Tidun Wada), in a session with newsmen on Wednesday.

Doguwa, who is also the Chief Whip of the House, said the decision was based on the success recorded by the president in vastly improving the security situation in the North-east. He said people in the constituents appreciate this as they are able to go about their life without fear.

He said: “2019 will come and we will engage all stakeholders, and Nigerians cannot afford to miss or lose President Buhari in 2019.”

“Inspite of the challenges, our people in the zone can sleep with their eyes closed and Nigerians are commending him. We have to commend him and we must support him.”

He added that members of the caucus resolved to support the president individually and collectively.

So also did the lawmaker point out what he perceives as a relegation, to the background, of his political zone in the 2017 Budget. He said the monies and projects allocated to his region are relatively low.

“When we looked at the budget, we have a lot of concerns that our zone is relegated to the background, especially in the area of capital provision.”

The caucus decried the violence in Kaduna and called on the security agencies to clamp down on what already has escalated horribly.
