A former Minister of Aviation Femi Fani-Kayode has faulted President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to South Africa, Concise News reports.

The Presidency had on Thursday noted that Buhari arrived in the country for a 3-Day State Visit on the invitation of President Cyril Ramaphosa of South Africa.

“President Buhari arrived South Africa last night on a 3-Day State Visit on the invitation of President Cyril Ramaphosa; and the 9th meeting of the South Africa/Nigeria Bi-National Commission, which will for the first time witness participation of the two Heads of State,” the tweet from the Presidency noted.

However, Fani-Kayode faulted Buhari’s visit, saying it shows self-hate and impunity on Buhari’s part.

The chieftain of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said if he were the leader of the West African nation, he would not visit South Africa where his compatriots were attacked.

“Be rest assured of one thing,” he said. “If I were President of Nigeria there is no way that I would go to South Africa just a few weeks after my people were butchered to shake hands that are still wet with the blood of my compatriots.

“It takes a lot of impunity and self-hate to do that.”

Nigerians were recently attacked in a wave of xenophobia in South Africa with over 500 returning home.

The Federal Government has, however, promised to help the returnees settle down to life in Nigeria.
