The convener of RevolutionNow protest, Omoyele Sowore, has said “we need a brand new country” as he urged his supporters to remain resolute.

Concise News reports that Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of the Federal High Court, Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, on Friday granted Sowore and his co-defendant, Olawale Bakare, bail of N150m.

The aforementioned defendants were arraigned by the Federal Government on seven charges bordering on alleged conspiracy to commit treason and money laundering among others.

But Sowore and Bakare pleaded not guilty to all the charges against them.

On Friday, Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana, argued for the defendants, while Hassan Liman, another (SAN), another SAN, led the prosecution’s legal team to argue against the bail application.

“Nobody can harass me. Under the military, we survived it; we will survive this one too,” the publisher of Sahara Reporters had said before he was granted bail.

“It doesn’t matter how long it takes, we must persevere and ensure that we liberate ourselves. We must not give up.

“I am in high spirits, I am not afraid, I don’t care what they do. We need a brand new country, that’s what I’m about.”

The President Muhammadu Buhari administration had filed seven counts bordering on treasonable felony and money laundering against Sowore.

Sowore was arrested for organising the RevolutionNow protest, which the Department of State Services (DSS) referred to as a treasonable offence.
