Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has condemned the arrest of the publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, by operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS).

Concise News had reported that Sowore, the convener of #RevolutionNow Protests, was picked up at his apartment in the early hours of Saturday.

The AAC presidential candidate posted a distress tweet at exactly 1:25 am today with an eyewitness claiming that his phone was forcefully taken from him.

His arrest may be linked to the #RevolutionNow – a series of planned protests against what Sowore describe as ‘bad governance in Nigeria’ – scheduled for August 5, 2019.

The PDP presidential candidate, therefore, called for Sowore’s release hours after he was reportedly picked up by the DSS on Saturday.

In a post on his verified Twitter page, Atiku described the arrest as “kidnapping in the guise”, stressing that freedom of speech was part of the nation’s democracy.
