Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has admitted that his players became relaxed in the last minutes of the 2-1 loss to Algeria on Sunday, Concise News reports.

A last-minute Riyad Mahrez free-kick condenmed Nigeria to a loss in a semi-final clash at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Speaking after the match, Rohr, has, however, praised his players for their resilence, describing the match as “wonderful.”

“It was a big fight until the last minute, it was a wonderful match, I think my players wanted it to go to extra time thinking Algeria were more tired,” Rohr said.

“We scored an own goal, unlucky, but we have come back every time in this tournament and this time we came back on a penalty. But a wonderful free kick from a football genius made the difference.”

Nigeria will play Tunisia in Wednesday’s third-place match at the Al-Salam Stadium in Cairo.
