Both teams have only met twice at the continental showpiece with Nigeria emerging victors on all counts.
The West Africans beat them 2-0 in the semi-final of the 2000 edition of the showpiece they co-hosted with Ghana.
Four years later in Tunisia, Osaze Odewingie’s brace condemned Nelson Mandela’s compatriot to a 4-0 bashing at the group stages.
Overall, Nigeria and South Africa have played on 14 official occasions with Bafana winning two and Nigeria seven.
South Africa, will, however, be banking on the fact that they have not lost to Nigeria since 2013 to shock the 2013 champions and prove the bookmakers wrong.
