Mikel and Rohr/File
Super Eagles captain Obi Mikel has resumed training on Sunday as the side prepare to face South Africa in a quarter-final game at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2019.
The former Chelsea man, 32, took part in light training during the team’s recovery session on Sunday morning.
He limped off the pitch in the West Africans 2-0 loss to minnows Madagascar Sunday last week.
Concise News understands that the development will be a major boost for the team as they gear up to take on the Bafana Bafana on Wednesday.
Nigeria’s coach Gernot Rohr had given an update about the former Lyn Oslo man’s fitness after the 3-2 win against Cameroon on Saturday.
“Mikel is trying to run already, so we will see if he could be fit one time for [South Africa] clash,” he said.
