The Super Eagles should not be anxious when they face Cameroon in a round of 16 tie at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), according to ex-international Victor Agali.

Both powerhouses will meet on Saturday in the knockout round game after finishing second in their groups.

While commenting ahead of the epic clash, Agali who was on the losing side as Nigeria finished second in the 2000 edition of the showpiece, urged Gernot Rohr‘s boys to be solid at the back.

“It’s very important that we keep a tight defence, and if we are able to do that, and not allow Cameroun score, it would be a good one for us,” Brila FM quoted Agali as saying.

“We must not be too anxious, I know Gernot, he’s a well-experienced coach and he knows a lot about African football.”

He added that “He [Rohr] has watched the Cameroonians and I think he will help with some good tactics that would be able to neutralize the attack of the Cameroonians.

“I believe the coach knows what to do because they are physical but we will impose our style of play and hopefully, we will get good tactics that we surely pay off.

“Cameroon defeated Nigeria in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations in 1984, 1988 and 2000, but most painful for the Super Eagles was that agonizing penalty shoot-out loss in front of home fans at the National Stadium, Lagos on 13th February 2000.”
