Three African players over the weekend won the Golden Boot award in the 2018/2019 English Premier League (EPL) season. Arsenal’s Pierre-Emery Aubameyang, Sadio Mane of Liverpool and teammate Mo Salah all notched 22 goals in the league this term to end as the highest goalscorers.

EPL: What Aubameyang Said After Winning Golden Boot Award

Arsenal forward, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, has expressed joy at sharing the Premier League Golden Boot with two other African stars, Concise News understands. This online news medium had reported that Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane both of Liverpool, shared the award with the Gabon international. Aubameyang, Egypt’s Salah and Senegal’s Mane, all netted 22 goals to win the award. Aubameyang scored 31 goals in 50 games for the Gunners this term, his first full season since his £56m switch in January last year. Speaking about the award, he said: “I’m happy that we won and that I’m sharing the [Golden Boot] trophy with two other guys that I like. “My teammates knew I was in contention. Me? I said nothing to the guys because I didn’t want them to only focus on me. “I’m a team player and if I wasn’t scoring, it wouldn’t have mattered. But I scored and I’m really happy about that. I have to be thankful to the team. “It was a tough season but I had the chance to score goals because the team played a great season. “Of course the last months were not the best in the Premier League, but the whole season, we put in a great effort. “I was near (to a hat-trick) but sometimes that can happen.”

Chelsea and Belgium international Eden Hazard has emerged as the player with the most assists in the 2018/2019 Premier League. Concise News reports that the Chelsea playmaker provided 15 assists as the Blues finished the season in third spot with 72 points. Ryan Fraser of AFC Bournemouth came second with 14 assists, while Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold and Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen jointly took third position after scoring 12 goals apiece. While Andrew Robertson of Liverpool provided 11 assists to take fifth spot, Manchester City’s duo of Leroy Sané and Raheem Sterling assisted their team-mates with goals 10 times each. Paul Pogba of Manchester United and Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson jointly finished eighth with nine assists, while Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette, City’s Sergio Agüero and Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah are three of six players that provided 10 assists.

Premier League: EPL Player Of The Season Emerges

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has been named the Premier League Player of the Season after the Netherlands international beat the likes of Raheem Sterling, Eden Hazard and Mohamed Salah to the award following a brilliant campaign. The 27-year-old beat off the likes of Raheem Sterling, Eden Hazard and team-mates Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane to take the prize on Sunday after fan votes were combined with those of a panel of experts. Van Dijk becomes the second successive Liverpool player to win the prize following Salah’s success in 2017-18 and fourth overall, with Luis Suarez and Michael Owen, has also taken home the award during their respective times at Anfield. It is also the second illustrious gong that the former Celtic centre-back has won in recent times after he was named PFA Player of the Year in the closing weeks of the campaign. In total, Van Dijk has played in each of Liverpool’s 37 Premier League matches this term, helping them to 20 clean sheets while scoring four goals at the other end of the pitch. Those performances have helped Liverpool to keep the pressure on defending champions Man City at the top of the table heading into the final day of the season.

Premier League 2018/19 Season: Man City Back-To-Back EPL Champions

Manchester City have retained the English Premier League title after a 4-1 win over Brighton at the Amex Stadium. Pep Guardiola’s side ended the campaign just two points shy of last season’s record-breaking 100-point haul and becomes the first team to retain the title since Manchester United did in 2009. Guardiola is only the third manager after Sir Alex Ferguson and Jose Mourinho to win successive Premier League titles. It is a fourth Premier League title for City after lifting the trophy in 2011-12, 2013-14,2017-18 and 2018-19 season. The Citizens fell behind on 27 minutes but Sergio Aguero levelled just 83 seconds later before Aymeric Laporte, Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan ensured victory and the Premier League trophy.
